The other thing to mention is that performing a Windows system restore with a major AV suite installed can often lead to problems. I would guess the various XP forums would have a similar method.ĪFAIK, MS will also provide free assistance for help with installing SECURITY patches.Ĭant' find the direct link or phone number at the moment, but there might be something here:

You could uninstall the patch in question, reboot and then run WU again. Or, some Windows updates can be uninstalled. You could try undoing the system restore. Sounds as if something was corrupted in WU during the system restore. It is as if Windows Update is stuck in some feedback loop and I am fast becoming far more than just annoyed with it. I am at a loss as to WHY this is happening. I have now repeated this update cycle 28 times! There is obviously something VERY wrong here! About a minute later, another update icon appears on the Taskbar, and once again, the dialog box states it is for the same update as before. So, I click on the button, and after about 20 seconds, the box changes to say the update was successfully installed. the SAME update that was already installed! After clicking on it, the dialog box states the update is for KB2534828. However, following this supposedly successful install, I noticed an update icon appear in my Taskbar. The only update it said I needed was KB2534282, which was supposedly successfully installed.

this morning (June 17th), I did a manual update from the Windows Update website. Automatic Updates is set to update daily at 1 a.m.Īfter performing a System Restore around 8 a.m. Which is annoying because for some while it has been not working very well and I wanted to restore it to a blank copy.First, my system info: Dell Dimension 3000, running Win XP Pro, SP3. My biggest problem is just that I just cannot sync my iPod anymore though. Which is just great because they don't have much reason to fix a problem with iTunes. Seeing as Apple so far has no solution for this, and the given evidence from the Visual C++ update, this is probably a Microsoft problem. No matter how many times I instal it, it is always there.

Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242) I continuously have a system update for some Security Update for Visual C++. I have used CCleaner, which by the way detected a TON of errors in the registry related to the Visual C++ stuff. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes in every way, getting rid of everything apple related in the registry and all. I've been having it since some time in June. When I plug it into my computer nothing happens and the screen remains, it won't let me do anything. It shows a USB cord and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. Is there any simple, FREE way to fix this problem?!Īnd to top it all off, since my iPod touch is brand new it won't do ANYTHING until I have iTunes installed & working. So as you can see, I've tried ALOT of stuff. Net framework with a program on the Apple site, NOTHING HAS WORKED. I've tried installing an older version of iTunes but the same thing happens error message. I've been downloading the recommended iTunes for my computer, which I found here: but it doesn't work. I tried running the CCCleaner before & after reinstalling iTunes but iTunes still didn't work. I tried to find the Windows number and it asked for my credit card number because my service required payment so I just didn't do it. I've tried calling Apple and they told me it was a Windows issue that they can't help with.

Error 7 (Windows error 14001)" I tried uninstalling & reinstalling at least 12 times, nothing changed. When I download iTunes & try to open it, and error pops up that says "iTunes was not installed correctly.
